AN OPEN LETTER FROM A VERY CONCERNED CITIZEN OF WICHITA, KANSAS

The recent action by a Wichita Police Officer, who was caught disabling the private residence security camera of a Wichita citizen,  is totally and completely INEXCUSABLE. At the very least, the officer interfering with the personal security camera of that citizen  should be arrested and charged with vandalism.
There is no possible excuse for this action by a police officer…None…Certainly not that they were “afraid of an ambush”, as the (lame and weak) official explanation says! A private citizen could not offer this weak and spineless excuse…why should a person with a badge be able to do so?
And don’t try to call this a “stupid act” or a “lack of judgement” by sworn law enforcement officers…those excuses would NOT hold well with a judge if John Q. Citizen did that, instead of someone who WE ARE SUPPOSED TO TRUST!!!
There is no doubt that If  “We the People” did that, “We the People” would already be sitting in jail.  Badges don’t grant extra rights…or they should not, certainly!
There cannot be two sets of laws: one for “We the People”, and one for those people who just happen to be wearing a badge and a uniform at the time a crime was committed.
Further, How can this action be viewed as anything but a crime? If John Q. Citizen did THAT to a security camera at a Wichita Police substation, I know very well that John Q. Citizen would have been arrested, probably at gunpoint!
Sadly, the integrity of law enforcement has long been questioned in our society, and rightly so.  Police brutality is an all too often occurrence in the daily news, and is occurring in epidemic numbers.
And, now, do we need to even worry that police will disable our home security systems when they arrive on our property? Sadly, very sadly, the answer is definitely yes… we do.
Justice for all includes prosecuting crimes committed by those persons wearing a badge at the time a crime is committed. Lady justice is supposed to be blind, because Badges don’t grant extra rights…or do they?
